Manuscript Submission Requirements

Submission of manuscripts

The manuscript should be submitted as an e-mail attachment to malaysianjournalssr@gmail.com and addressed to the Editor-in-Chief / Managing Editor, Malaysian Journal of Sport Science and Recreation, Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, Universiti Teknologi MARA, 40450, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, or you can submit your article via http://myjms.mohe.gov.my/index.php/mjssr/about/submissions

Length of manuscripts

Manuscripts sent to the journal should be a clear presentation of the subject matter of the contents of the manuscript. Manuscripts should be typed with single-spacing on an A4 paper with at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins and all pages should be numbered. The manuscript should not be more than 5,000 words including tables, illustrations, and references. The Editor-in-Chief retains the discretion to publish manuscripts beyond this length if he considers it necessary to ensure clarity of the paper.

The first page should include the title of the manuscript, first name, middle name (s), and last name of the author(s) as well as the name of their institutions and professional affiliations. The full name and address of the author identified as the correspondent author (including fax number or e-mail address if possible) should also be at the bottom of the page.

The second page should repeat the title with the abstract without the author (s) names listed. The abstract should be between 150 to 250 words and should provide a concise summary of the objective, methods, results, and conclusions of the article.

Citations and References

The manuscript should be referenced according to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition format. Authors’ area advised to make minor modifications to the APA referencing format in order to accommodate Malaysian name, allowing for (Abdul R.) to be written in full as (Abdul Razak) to include both the first name and surname.

Illustrations, Tables and Figures

The manuscript should also follow the APA 7th edition format for illustrations, tables, and figures. Tables should be typed in single spacing, each on a separate piece of paper with a self-explanatory title. Tables should be comprehensible without reference to the text. They should be placed in the manuscript with their approximate locations indicated in the text. Figures should be produced direct from authors’ originals and should be presented as good black and white images preferably, carefully labeled with capital / lower case lettering. Unnecessary background patterns, lines and shading that could create confusion should be avoided.

Acceptance

The Editor-in-Chief will send a letter of acceptance after reviewing the evaluation of the manuscript from two independent and anonymous referees (by double-blind peer review). He or she has the right to make any additional changes to the manuscript that it has already been reviewed. The final copy including modifications based on the referees’ comments should be as an e-mail attachment to the Editor-in-Chief.

Proofs

Proofs are sent to authors for correction of print but not for rewriting or the introduction of new material. Proofs will be sent by e-mail to the first or nominated author, for the author to check and correct typographical errors, but not for general revision or alteration of the manuscript. Proofs should be returned to the Editor-in-Chief by e-mail within three weeks of receipt. MJSSR is moving towards using the administration of MyJMS from the year 2021 version onwards.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

A conflict of interest exists when your interpretation of data or presentation of information may be influenced by your personal or financial relationship with other people or organizations. Authors must disclose any financial conflict of interests they should also reveal any non-financial conflict of interests that may cause them embarrassment were they to become public after the publication of the manuscript.

All conflicts of interest that are declared will be listed at the end of published articles. Where an author gives no conflict of interests, the listing will read 'The author(s) declare that they have no conflict of interests'.

When declaring the conflict of interest, please consider the following questions:

Financial conflict of interests:

In the past three years have you received reimbursements, fees, funding, or salary from an organization that may in any way gain or lose financially from the publication of this manuscript, either now or in the future? Is such an organization financing this manuscript? If so, please specify.

Do you hold any stocks or shares in an organization that may in any way gain or lose financially from the publication of this manuscript, either now or in the future? If so, please specify.

Do you hold or are you currently applying for any patents relating to the content of the manuscript? Have you received reimbursements, fees, funding, or salary from an organization that holds or has applied for patents relating to the content of the manuscript? If so, please specify.

Do you have any other financial conflict of interests? If so, please specify.

Non-financial conflict of interests:

Is there any non-financial conflict of interest (political, personal, religious, ideological, academic, intellectual, commercial or any other) to declare in relation to this manuscript? If so, please specify.

If you are unsure as to whether you, or one of your co-authors, has a conflict of interest please discuss it with the editorial office.

AUTHORS’ CONTRIBUTIONS

According to ICMJE (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html ), it is recommended the contribution of the author (s) be based on the following 4 criteria:

  1. Author(s) have made substantial contributions to conception and design, or acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data,
  2. Author(s) have been involved in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content,
  3. Author(s) have given final approval of the version to be published,
  4. Author(s) agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved. Each author should have participated sufficiently in the work to take public responsibility for appropriate portions of the content.

    In addition to being accountable for the parts of the work he or she has done, an author should be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the work. In addition, authors should have confidence in the integrity of the contributions of their co-authors.

    All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged.

    MJSSR assumes that all authors have read and approved the final manuscript before submission. Each author’s contribution should be clearly stated in a section before references.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in the acknowledgements section. Examples of those who might be acknowledged include a person who provided purely technical help, writing assistance, a department chair who provided only general support.

Please acknowledge anyone who contributed towards the article by making substantial contributions to conception, design, acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data, or who was involved in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content, but who do not meet the criteria for authorship. Include the source(s) of funding for the study. Acknowledge anyone who contributed materials essential for the study. If a language editor has made a significant revision of the manuscript, we recommend that you acknowledge the editor by name, where possible.

Authors should obtain permission to acknowledge from all those mentioned in the Acknowledgements section.

Checklist of MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Author(s) may use the following checklist in sequence before the submission of manuscripts.

  1. Submission cover letter
  2. Corresponding author title, name, address
  3. A cover page with title and author(s) affiliation (including corresponding author and all author’s address, email, phone no).
  4. Single spacing with wide margins
  5. Tables/figures at the text
  6. Reference list in APA format
  7. Conflict of interest
  8. Author’s contributions
  9. Acknowledgements
  10. Funding bodies (if applicable)
